Ibiza in February: Embrace the Island's Off-Season Serenity

Ibiza might once have only been known for its clubs, beach parties and music, but it’s now a travel destination that also offers incredible luxury and wellness experiences for those that stay outside of the busiest parts of the island. If you’re looking for serenity on the ‘White Island’, visiting in the off-season is the best way to enjoy the scenery and cultural offering of this popular travel destination, as well as making the most of its culinary and wellness offerings.

February is right at the end of the winter in Ibiza, so the temperature starts to increase as the month goes on, and you’ll see a lot more sunshine than in other parts of Europe. In this guide, we explain why visiting February in Ibiza is a fantastic idea for travellers seeking a relaxing or romantic experience, with suggestions of where to go and what to do during your stay.

The Weather in Ibiza in February

In comparison to some other destinations in Europe, the weather in Ibiza in February is relatively mild with a good amount of sunshine most days. However, you should not expect the dazzling heat of the summer season if you visit at this time of year, as February definitely falls in the winter on the island.

The average temperature in Ibiza in February is 12°C, rising to an average high of 16°C and falling to an average low of 9°C. The sea temperature around the island is only 15°C, which will feel pretty chilly and should only be braved by experienced cold-water swimmers.

There is an average of 7 days of rain in Ibiza, which means that three-quarters of the month should see dry weather. However, hours of sunshine each day are limited, so be prepared for cloudy or overcast weather when you visit.

Festivals and Events

Despite February being the off-season for tourism in Ibiza, there are a surprising number of local events taking place throughout the month. This is great news for visitors coming to the island at this time of year, as you should be around for at least one of the following events.

Ibiza's International Independent Film Festival

For the culture connoisseurs amongst you, the Ibiza International Independent Film Festival is a celebrated event that is held in the spring every year. Focusing on short and feature-length independent films from up-and-coming directors, the festival program includes screenings of a range of films as well as workshops and talks from various industry professionals.

Santa Eulalia Festival

One of the best things about visiting Ibiza in February is that you get to see a more authentic side of the island, and the celebration of the patron saint of Santa Eulalia is a great opportunity to do just that. The official day for the saint is the 12th of February, but the occasion is usually marked with different events throughout the month, which include live music, performances and local fairs and markets.

Patrimoni Gastronomic Food Festival

Held in the town centre of Ibiza, the Patrimoni Gastronomic Food Festival is one of the best culinary events held in Ibiza. Taking place between January and March, it’s a celebration of all the different types of food on the island and involves a variety of restaurants and eateries around Ibiza creating special tasting menus to be judged and enjoyed by critics and locals alike.

The full program of participating venues changes each year, but we strongly recommend that you sample at least one of the special menus designed for this festival whilst you visit.

Ibiza Carnival

As in many countries in Mediterranean Europe, Carnival is an event usually held in February, just before the Christian celebration of Easter begins its month-long lead-up to Holy Week. It’s one of the most anticipated events in the winter on the island, and an incredible experience for those who are visiting Ibiza in February.

The date of Carnival changes every year, but the parade in Ibiza Town is always the main event. Expect colourful costumes from those in the parade and those watching, lots of upbeat music, and a range of performances and activities organised to keep everyone entertained on the day.

The Best Places to Visit in Ibiza in February

Thanks to the lull in tourism, when it comes to where to visit in Ibiza in February, you don’t have to worry about avoiding anywhere that is known for being overcrowded. Classic attractions and tourist hotspots will be a lot less busy than usual at the start of the year, but there are also other locations around the island that are worth a trip in February.

Santa Inés

The almond blossoms in Ibiza are one of the main attractions in late winter and early spring, with hundreds of fragrant trees erupting into bloom and creating picturesque landscapes. One of the best places to go and see the almond blossoms in Ibiza is Santa Inés, which is to the north of San Antonio.

Santa Inés, which is also referred to as Santa Agnès de Corona, is a small village in a valley that is best known for its almond blossom trees. The main month for the flowers is January, when the village holds a festival in their honour, but if you visit at the start of the month then you’ll likely still get to admire a very impressive display.

Cala d'Hort

The Ibiza weather in February typically means that most tourists don’t spend a lot of time on the beach. But if you’re happy to walk along the sand, admire the views of the cliffs and enjoy the fresh but sunny days scattered throughout February, a trip to the beach for a walk along the coast can be a great way to spend the day.

Cala d'Hort is one of the best-known beaches in Ibiza, located on the southwest coast of the island. It’s a long, crescent-shaped sandy beach that you reach by walking down a hill, or driving and parking your car in the small designated area at the end of the road.

What makes Cala d'Hort such a popular spot is that it offers incredible views of Es Vedra, which is a limestone rock formation that erupts out of the sea just off the coast. It’s worth visiting this beach in February for the views of this alone, especially if you manage to catch a sunset.

The Best Things to Do in Ibiza in February

Visiting Ibiza in the quiet season doesn’t mean that you’ll have nothing to do on the island. Although there might not be the same kinds of party opportunities as you’ll find in the summer, you’ve still got all of the island’s history and culture to explore, making the most of the limited number of other visitors.

Visit MACE, the Museum of Contemporary Art

Whilst rain in Ibiza in February isn’t an everyday occurrence, it might be that wet weather changes your plans if you visit the island during the month. If you’re looking for an indoor activity, Ibiza’s Museum of Contemporary Art ‘MACE’ is a lovely place to spend the afternoon if you’re in Old Town Ibiza, especially if you enjoy modern art.

The gallery was originally opened in 1969 and is one of the oldest museums of contemporary art in Spain. After a five-year large reform process, it reopened in 2021 and is home to a number of permanent and changing exhibitions that showcase avant-garde pieces from a range of backgrounds.

In February, MACE is open from 10am – 1:30pm Tuesday to Sunday and 4pm – 6pm Tuesday - Friday.

Stargazing

Ibiza is known for its clear skies and lack of light pollution, which makes it a brilliant location for stargazing. On days when the weather has been bright and clear, you can expect excellent conditions for watching the night sky, either from a beach or from the terrace or balcony of your accommodation.

If you’re visiting Ibiza around Valentine's Day in February, stargazing is a lovely romantic activity for you and your partner. The evenings will be chilly, so we recommend wrapping up warm and bringing a blanket to wrap around the both of you as you admire the constellations above.

The reputation that Ibiza has for its stargazing opportunities means that guided stargazing sessions take place for visitors that want to know more about what they’re looking at. There will be fewer of these around the island in February, but it’s worth checking whether any are taking place during your trip for a guided experience around the constellations above the island.

Spend the Day at Spa

Another great thing to do in Ibiza in February, which also works well as a romantic activity, is spending the day at the spa. The island has a wide range of different luxury hotels and spas that offer all kinds of treatments to guests, and there’s no better way to properly relax and unwind whilst on holiday than with a full day of pampering and indulgence.

Ibiza is known for its wellness offering, so there are all kinds of different options catering to different preferences. Choose from classic spa days with beauty treatments or massages, or try a more holistic experience focused on wellness with things like yoga classes or meditation sessions.

If you stay at a Dynamic Lives villa when you visit Ibiza, our concierge service will be able to recommend a range of different spa options and make all the necessary arrangements for you. We can even organise for spa experiences to be brought to your villa, providing a unique and rejuvenating experience in the privacy of your accommodation.
